My passion for healthy living began just over 10 years ago while battling aggressive cancer. As a survivor of stage 3 melanoma I know that each day is a gift and another day I have beaten the survival statistics.
Despite regular exercising and having a healthy diet I still felt uncomfortably overweight. Knowing I had potential for more, I took action at the end of 2010 and committed the next year to ramping up my fitness and nutrition. I enrolled in spin classes, bootcamps and added dumbbells to my home routine, yielding results of over 50lb of weight loss.

I first stepped into a gym in January 2012 when I started working with Justin Wilson at Impact Nutrition with the desire to learn to safely lift more than my 30lb home weights and gain some muscle. When Justin suggested I set a goal to compete just 5 months later in the IDFA Calgary Classic I thought it sounded impossible, along with the challenge of getting my body ready it meant dealing head on with my stage fright and body image issues…but what a way to challenge myself…so I committed fully to the task of training hard and eating well.

It paid off! On June 30, 2012 I won first place Women’s Novice Figure Tall and Women’s Novice Figure Overall at the IDFA Calgary Classic, far exceeding my expectations!

On Oct 20, 2012 at my second IDFA competition, I was awarded first place in Women’s Open Figure and my Pro Card at the IDFA Western Canada Classic.

Reaching this unexpected success after just 10 months of training is truly a gift. Competing has been a celebration of health.  I have been honoured to stand beside some of the most amazing athletes I’ve ever seen, enjoying the camaraderie and level playing field of substance free competition. Being a part of Team Impact Nutrition is like being part of a family and I am truly blessed by each of them.

I’d like to say to anyone who has been told that the statistics are against them…You are a person, not a statistic so get out there and prove them wrong!
